What’s the plan…
VIDEO DEMO
Some years ago I built the Fw190A-8 in 1:32 from the very good Hasegawa kit and I really liked the scheme featuring “White 11” flown by Corporal Walter Wagner and featured in this period photograph below…
(Photo: This is a well known photo showing a captured German Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8 (W.Nr. 681497, “White 11”) of 5./JG 4 at St. Trond airfield, Belgium, circa 1 January 1945. This aircraft was flown during on 1 January 1945 by Corporal Walter Wagner who was hit by flak during the attack over St. Trond airfield. The engine died and he had to make an emergency landing. The weapons have obviously been removed. The photo was taken by the resident USAAF 404th Fighter Group. Wikipedia)
That build was the Master build in my modelling book on building the Fw190A-F series published by Osprey some years back…
This time though, we have what looks like a very nice offering from Revell featuring the Fw190A-8. The kit is well detailed and has a great colour scheme too. I certainly wanted to build the Revell kit and I have been suffering Luftwaffe build withdrawal symptoms for some time, so it’s long overdue in my book and really hope you enjoy this build.
Having just finished the very nice HobbyBoss Me262A-2a in 1:48, I feel ready to take on this larger scale project. You’ll have seen in the above video, this build is very much about the paint scheme and markings and I also want to give some closer insight for any of you looking in on how I do what I do with a project like this.
There are more videos this time around and I’m pleased about that and hope they show you a bit more. It’s funny but it’s not easy doing detail work on video, mainly because the angles needed for the camera don’t always match the hand positions that I need to do the work, but I’ve done my best and hopefully you’ll find this build useful in some way.

Cannot Go wrong with a 190 Geoff, I am doing the Hasegawa F8 kit as Red 9. I will follow along as you build yours. Takes me back to the series of books you did back in the good old days(lol), that I used to hone my Luftwaffe model skills with.
Had to laff when you got XF22 and XF63 mixed up I am always doing that.
Cheers
James

Built this exact kit a few months back, is very nice.

Thanks Mick and James – yes really enjoying this one and it would be nice James to re-visit those older publications, especially the Luftwaffe Masterclass from Osprey – that is in serious need to bringing up to date given all the new materials and kits available – sadly the publisher didn’t seem to be interested. Hello,Geoff – An absolute masterclass and masterpiece as always, dear friend.🏆
I’ve yet to try MRP acrylic lacquers but guess that they’re similar to work with as Mr.Color ones apart from being pre-thinned.
They’re superb paints to work with and I’ve found their rapid drying time a big help when working on and handling big scale subjects.
The whole project is a joy to view and study.👏😉👍

That’s very kind of you Paul and very much appreciated. Apart from the fact that they stink to high heaven, the MRP paints are superb to work with as you say – really excellent coverage and finish. Here’s to the next one… G

Excellent build as always Geoff and the pastel shading of panel lines is great….tried it on a recent Mojo Tamiya Spitfire build around the wing to fuselage fairing and adjacent cowling panels….much easier imho than post shading with paint and easier to correct
Well done as always sir
Best wishes Howard
