Painting General

Tom Primett reviews and soak tests a great iOS app for stash management
Let’s face it, we all have too many paints and too many models. “Too many” being highly controversial based on what side of the fence you stand. You can never have “too many” to look at and admire, however is it too many to keep track of?
There are a number of apps out there for iOS and Android, and I’ve owned and tried a few. I downloaded the free Model Colors and immediately fell in love. That was a year ago and 500 paints later. Yes 500 was that magic number that I decided to write this review and share.
The app provides an easy to use interface that shows the brand, number and actual colour. You can write notes and create colour mixes. The app covers many paint companies that I’ve never heard of but would be a good reference for an unusual colour. You can also create a shopping list of paints that can be sent to email or message for that trip to the model shop or model show.
Looking at the model stash, there is a similar if less sophisticated system for models, which makes good use of keywords and has the ability to link models, like adding unbuilt figures to 2 different AFV. An update scheduled will see a manufacturer/brand list to make it easier to add, but it isn’t a hardship at the moment.
This is a growing app. It is fantastic at the moment and getting better. It is Free to use but I would encourage you to donate like I have, so that the app can be progressed. The app can be found on the Apple App Store, Model Colors have a presence on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/modelcolorsapp
