Classic Kit build
Feature Article with Tim Haynes
Kit ref: A04103
Background:
Having obtained a pair of Airfix Hawker Fury Mk1 kits from circa 1980ish at a bargain price they floated to the top of my build pile rather briskly. The motivation being my first foray into biplanes and rigging, so they were cheap and I had two goes at getting a reasonable result. This build is from early 2016 and is a brief review of how I went about it.
Just before we get going, here’s a quick look at how she turned out…
The Plan…
The Mk1 Fury was generally a clean Aircraft in RAF service, employed during the early 1930s in an RAF with much focus on prestige. A highly polished finish was de rigueur and I needed a way to clearly differentiate the front metal panels from the silver doped canvas of the rear fuselage and wings. I also wanted to enhance the builds with small details to lift the finished item.
References…
My only reference source for this build was the good old Internet, with the images of the restored airframe K5674 being very useful.
