Review by Neil Pepper
Before getting started it’s a good idea to check out Finished Now because we have already built this model! The finished project should be in FN by the time you read this Here Now review but if not, check Build Now. Ed.
Initial assessment…
On opening the box and you will find seven finely moulded spruces in a grey plastic with the lower hull in one piece, one sheet of photo etch and a piece of what I think is a soft copper wire for the tow cables.
Accuracy…
From pictures that I have compared the kit parts against, I think it is pretty good but if accuracy is paramount I would suggest comparing against some good plans – if you can get any (none too easy!).
Quality…
This is as usual, a good quality kit from Hobby Boss and is up to their current standard of moulding. The tracks have small ejector pin marks on their inner faces which can be removed without a great deal of effort. The appliqué armour mounting for the sides of the hull have to be aligned carefully as the marks on the hull are faint. One thing to watch for is the plastic which on this particular kit appears to be a little brittle but we shall see when it’s built if this is correct.
Instructions…
One instruction sheet, which I have found to be very easy to follow with a separate colour painting guide.
Decals…
There are two decal options which are both for the Eastern front. The first is for a September 1941 vehicle and the other for the heavy tank company of the 2nd armoured battalion in 1942. They look to be in good register and to be very thin and delicate so care is needed.
Some neat box art is on show – check this out – it’s enough to make you go for your scalpel…
Conclusions…
My first though on opening the box was Hobby boss have done it again what a great little kits and I cant wait to get stuck in to it.
Highly recommended
