The sWS (Schwere Wehrmachtschlepper) was a 5 tonne half-track produced from December 1943 until wars end. This kit is another in the series of sWS half-tracks produced by Great Wall Hobby. It’s also one of the sWS that did not have an official production type and was thought to be not built but photos on the internet show there were some built even if just field mods.
This is going to be an article full of firsts…
- first 1:35 kit that I have built in some years…
- first Great Wall Hobby kit that I have built, and lastly…
- first time I have had to write and take photos of my efforts, so let’s start!
Well, on opening the kit I was faced with a box full of plastic, brass, colour painting scheme and 11 page instruction sheet. After studying the instruction sheet for some time I was not so frightened as I was in the beginning, so that’s reassuring.
I will be also using L3525T brass set in this build.
Steps 1 through step 7…
The chassis and front suspension has lots of small steps, of gluing parts together so not as daunting as I first thought to make a compete running gear. Step 3 the front suspension and steering needs careful studying of the instructions as you could get things wrong if you go too fast and don’t follow them carefully but if all goes well you will end up with this.
It is a shame that a lot of this you will never see when the cab and body have been fitted as there is lots of nice detailing here.
