The main problem with the rear hold is that there a huge great join line running all the way down the centreline in the roof bisecting all the rib detail and that’s a huge pain to try and lose. So you have some choices: close the rear cargo doors – problem goes away; open the doors and try to find a way of masking the join line? Problem this… In the end I decided to cut strips of Tamiya tape and work them in between the rib detail, thereby hiding the join line (well mostly). It’s a good idea to try and scape the inside of the join line between the rib detail before you apply the tape as you don’t want any raised edges to show through. The interior of the cargo hold is sprayed Alclad2 Airframe Aluminium, but just about any silver paint will do. The light and dark grey areas are just visible and now this approach is done I think it is just passable. If you wanted to make a better job of it, certainly better than my efforts here you could use metal foil, probably lead foil that is easy to cut and work into the panels between the ribs. In doing this I think you will be more successful than I was at eliminating that annoying join!
Fuselage halves…
So far just about all the work has been on the internal pod but while that’s set aside to dry you can turn your attention to the fuselage halves. The clear parts had a bit of flash (excess plastic) on them and when this is cut away the small windows fine very well. The front forward right side square window has a large imperfection across half of it and I hope to improve the look of this by adding some Johnson’s Klear to both sides. The inside is done and it already looks a bit better.
Just before the fuselage halves are joined you might just want to add some weight to the nose? There’s no mention of adding this in the instructions but looking at that huge tail and the amount of airframe aft of the main gear I wasn’t convinced that we wouldn’t have a tail-sitter here, so out with the air gun pellets and plasticine putty. I crammed a decent amount of both into the area immediately behind the bulkhead and just added some flat black to the area behind the open doorway into the cabin, just in case some of the bright blue colour showed forward.
