We’re entering the final phases now. I used Xtracrylix Red Arrows Red, this colour is also known as signal red, for the whole airframe. Rather than using a gloss varnish before applying the decals I used a product called The Treatment Modelling Wax (around £5.00 GBP). The only outlet I know of in the UK for this product is Hiroboy and they may be contacted via their website at www.hiroboy.com. I applied it using a cotton bud and then buffed it using a soft cloth. I believe this method gives a nice scale gloss finish.
The decals were then applied over this finish and I used some decal setting solution to get them to settle down nicely.
After the decals it’s now time to get all the finishing touches done. First of all I replaced all the various aerials and antenna with .01” plasticard followed by the undercarriage parts. After all of this it was down to mounting the flaps (which, after all, is what this is all about). I found that some fettling was required to get everything aligned correctly. On each of the centre flap actuators I drilled a hole to enable me to mount the flap actuating rams using some Minimeca .06mm steel tube. I’m not sure if this is still available (Try Albion Alloys tubing – see Get it Now Links – Geoff), but anything comparable will do. As far as I can find out this ram is only on the centre actuator, but I’m open to correction on this point. I used tube cement to attach the flaps and cyano for the rams.
