Decals
The decals always looked good in this kit – one of the new breed printed in Italy and answering our prayers over many years. My optimism was rewarded hugely – they are superb! Especially when it came to laying down all the thin walkways on the upper fuselage; they coped with plenty of handling, re-positioning and decal softening solution – Micro Set – excellent. I can’t find any silvering at all and this was all the result of putting the decals down on a good hard smooth gloss surface and using good quality products in the first place.
Weathering
As I mentioned, the C-17s in RAF service haven’t yet weathered very much and are kept pretty clean. Combine this with the small 1:144 scale and you’ll see that little weathering is needed to make you model look convincing. I chose to post-shade a little using grey pastel chalks. I’ve just added an entry to your Techniques Bank on how to use this technique and a full explanation – so… why not go there now and check that out if you want more detail, but the quick version is to simply watch the video now and you can do that here:
