Fancy a change? Trying something different
By Mish Edwards
Introduction
You know how it is, you and a few of your modelling friends are talking about what you’re going to build next and some bright spark suggests that we should all build something different.
The next thing is various subjects are discussed and you’re carried along in the momentum. Now don’t ask me how it happened, but the next thing I know is I’ve been challenged and I’m on the Internet researching NASCAR subjects. For those of you that don’t know NASCAR stands for National Association for Stock Car Racing and is a series of races, held in the USA on oval circuits using, albeit altered, but basic ‘stock body shaped cars’. The Daytona 500 being the most famous race. Something different indeed.
After selecting a car that I liked, it was off to eBay to find a kit. Revell made the only kit of the model I wanted and it was the only one available in the USA. (I have since located a few suppliers in the UK.
My chosen kit was the Revell Ford Thunderbird 1997 and the kit option was for the car number 94 sponsored by McDonalds and driven by the legendary Bill Elliott.
Once the kit had arrived it was obvious that the ravages of time had taken their toll of the decals, so an American friend, a keen NASCAR follower and modeller advised me to try Mike’s Decals based in the USA.
So now I had my kit, decals and research material not to mention a tame NASCAR expert on tap! Time to start building.
