On the cockpit left side wall I have chopped the rods off the throttle control and have made up some new ones out of brass rod which will be installed when the control is fixed. There are some small junction boxes, which I have made up, to be fixed and wired later.
I spent a huge amount of time trying to make ammo feeds for the 303s. I can see why they have been made of rubber as it simplifies the twist into the boxes but they are really unconvincing if you want to leave the panel off.
In the end I did my best painting it to look as though it is feeding ammo to the guns, but I am only partially satisfied.
The guns were painted dark silver and then given a heavy wash of Mig’s oil and grease stain mix (which is rapidly becoming a staple of mine) with some brown oil paint added.
Cannons
Next step, whilst still progressing with the cockpit, is the cannon pack. Fiddly, in as much as they will move around until secured into the fuselage as they are not anchored very securely to their ammo supply.
For the feeds, I have tried to give some definition to the cannon rounds – doing this by painting a white background , then an orange then applying gold rubbing powder, all done with a toothpick.
I promised myself that I would not get involved with such detail but this model is fun. You may have to watch its progress over months not weeks. But I guess I will be applying a lot of my techniques to each part so treat it as a number of different models.
Finally, I dry brushed silver over the feeds as they mostly seem to be aluminium.
The boxes appear to be made of wood and I have seen pics of them painted in undercoat so I thought by way of interest I would make them look as though they had been painted green but just got bashed about.
The feed motors I have seen in a blue colour probably post war but it adds interest.
Just some wiring added to the .303s a little more fixing needed here but nearly done.
The ammo boxes had straps for pulling them out so I made these up from Tamiya tape and painted them light brown.
Finally a bit more wiring and some junction boxes for the port side and with the cockpit seats fitted for the effect.
