Conclusion
Well, I did it! I completed my first ever ‘Spitfire’ model and I am very pleased with the final result.
The kit is terrific from the box, but with the right hands this can be a show stopper. Yes, panel lines are too deep and rivets too heavy so a couple of coats of Halfords own might help here?
Detailing is first class and really needs very little adding too it, seat belts aside. Decals are outstanding and a major improvement for Airfix.
Build-ability is excellent, instructions clear, options are many and helpful and well planned. All in all this is a 9/10 kit for me and for Airfix one of their best yet.
Options for conversions are many and the C-Wing you get spares with wings folded and would work well on a Mk.V Spit.
I have enjoyed this build and love the end result. A bonus and an honour and privilege for me is that Ian Crawford of the IPMS Spitfire SIG has asked if it can be added to the collection. I was delighted to accept so you’ll be able to see this at model shows around the country.
Final thoughts: If you like Spits or Seafires, this is a must-build kit. If you don’t, build it anyway… it’s fun!
