Now we repeat with the upper surfaces in a similar manner, making use of ‘stick-it’ notes in lieu of expensive masking tape.
One point to note here, is that I am keeping the flaps as horizontal as possible and minimising any repeated bending, as the hinge points could work harden the brass and snap if placed under too much movement.
Now the fun part, fitting the flap inner structures. The inner flaps are easy enough, these are all identical parts but are handed, so ensure the side detail is facing outwards towards the wing tip on each side.
The outer flap structures are a little more complex as there are four separate structure profiles in a specific order. The instructions are not so clear, however help is at hand with the order printed into the brass on the reverse of the vertical rear bulkhead. I should perhaps have mentioned this earlier, to take a note of the order, as if you haven’t, its not so easy to get right.
Notice the order is spaced between part 7, so fit these first to both port and starboard.
The photo-etch set is designed that the flaps are extended at full 30 deg down, so if you want partial flap, you would need to cut the hinge points and fit the flap higher up the structure. I plan to keep them fully extended, hence the concern at damaging the hinge point with too much movement.
Here we go again, masking and primed before painting with Mr Color Aluminium.
