Completing the wings
Our wings are almost complete, the Canadian Herc’s have a black panel on the upper nacelle of the inner engines, so that is easily added.
Now we can apply the stencil and scheme decals both over and under each wing, I opted not to use the black edge walkway lines supplied with the set, as my reference material didn’t show them, although I believe some airframes did have them. Can always change my mind later after the wings are fitted.
One thing about all early Hercules was their ‘smokey’ engines and the heavily stained wing surfaces typically seen on well used birds. I applied these stains by finely spaying with a dark oily colour, in this case Mr Colour Cowling Black, then overshooting this with Mr Colour Smoke Grey.
As my preference is to decal in one session, the main airframe now gets attention.
Once again the differences between the Italeri kit and the Airfix kit become apparent, as the scaling for the striping decals is slightly off, I chose to align the top of the main entry hatch versus the panel line detail above.
With a final overshoot of high gloss finish to seal the decals, I took the opportunity to weather the nose by applying a sponge lightly onto the wet surface, this leaves a mildly airflow worn effect.

Beautiful rendition of an old kit!
