Back to the cockpit floor, we need to fill the pegs of the wheel well walls and sand smooth. With a dig in the spares box I added a central jump seat mounting on the floor and small strips of styrene for pilot, co-pilot and engineer seat runners.
As the entrance was a gaping hole, a little more kit bashing and I created some walls for the entrance and a new floor.
Cockpit bulkhead is again devoid of detail and so is the other side facing the main cargo deck. There are also more of those pesky injection pin marks to remove.
A quick search for some reference photos and we can scratch together a reasonable resemblance of the bulkhead in the cargo bay.
To finish up the cockpit bulkhead I added a crew rest seat and engineers station. At this point the Eduard PE set is fitted, the instrument panel being particularly useful as Airfix don’t supply one at all.
There is some work needed to the L-shaped lumps of plastic that Airfix claim as crew seats, a little Dremel and round file action and some sanding to better scale effect, makes all the difference.
I had to dig in the spares box again for the crew jump seat behind the central console.
Final result is not too shabby, given very little will be visible.
To wrap up the cockpit section, we just needed to prepare the inside walls, where there is a very large bulge to smooth down and for the Eduard PE instrument panel to fit (remember Airfix weren’t expecting you to fit the one they didn’t supply), a little dry-fitting and trimming to the section under the windscreen is necessary.
I will fit the completed cockpit section later as there is a lot of handling of the fuselage halves yet to come.

Beautiful rendition of an old kit!
