In order to support the weight of the kit the main wheel struts and tail wheel support are cast in high quality brass. These require very little cleaning up and are nicely detailed, only needing some fuse wire to represent the brake cabling in order to finish them off. The retraction arms, springs and rams are all resin along with tie down hooks that attach to the main struts. I opted to paint all these before attachment but did dry fit them before this. As I said earlier I purchased a replacement set of diamond tread wheels to replace the kit ones. This was due to later model Furys having these tyres and not the grooved ones supplied.
The wheels were also flattened off in order to give the impression of weight and then painted with Xtracolor Tyre Black as the enamel tends to be more durable for wheels and doesn’t get chipped as easily as acrylics. Once completed all these assemblies along with the painted wheel well covers were put to one side for later attachment.
With the main aircraft parts now assembled I just had to add the cowling and some of the smaller details before giving the whole model a coating of Tamiya Fine White Primer. These details included the wing pitot tube, camera window (required for Carmichael`s aircraft), entry step, whip aerial and front canopy. The whip aerial on the tail was made from stretch sprue. One nice little detail that emphasises the quality of this kit is the fact that all the clear parts have been pre soaked in Klear so allowing super glue to be used without fogging problems.
