Back to the fuselage
My attention then turned to the main fuselage/wing assembly. I had some spare elevators from BlackDog which I used so I could deflect them down to add a bit more interest (I’d already used the rudder from the set so this was left as the stock kit part in a neutral position – it was too difficult to offset this as it meant cutting out the kit part and scratch building up the areas around the hinge).
The rest of the fuselage and wings are generally very good. The wing/fuselage fit along the fillet was excellent and required no filler which is always a bonus. Don’t forget to fill in the panels on the starboard side as these aren’t applicable to the A-6. One little area that was troublesome were the lower wing cannon inserts as the fit isn’t great and some careful filling and sanding is required.
Albion Alloys to the rescue
Rather than use the kit pitot tube, a replacement was made from Albion Alloy tubing which was a lot more robust. Don`t forget to re-drill out the cannon and camera holes as these can become a little misaligned when the wing halves are joined.
That’s about it with regards to the main building. All very simple as I’d hoped it would be and this would quickly allow me to get to my preferred painting stage.
