But what scheme?
I had been hoping that the two sheets of Xtradecal replacements would arrive from Hannants and sure enough they did; Dave has taken the RAF sheet for his forthcoming build and I settled on an all silver machine from the Belgian Air Force. Here’s a closer look at the sheet I am using…
On with the paint
From the pics I have found the aircraft were painted High Speed Silver. I decided on the following from the Alclad II metallic lacquer range:
• Alclad II Gloss Black Base
• Airframe Aluminium
• Dark Aluminium
The paint all went on without any trouble at all; I did leave the Gloss Black Base for a few hours to dry thoroughly before applying the two ‘silvers’ that went on one straight after the other.

Ghost seam join lines
With the best will in the world you do your best to make sure the preparation is flawless before applying the Alclad – you’ll certainly know if it isn’t after spraying the Aluminium! In fact, all looked pretty good, the only area that needed a bit of re-work was the forward section horizontal joins that showed some imperfections.
I have shot a couple of HD videos on how to get rid of these ‘ghost’ seams and you can find them below …

The area is sanded, buffed, polished and then the black, Airframe Aluminium and Dark Aluminium sprayed again, finishing off by adding in the rows of rivets using Rosie once more.
