First paint
Take a look at the two wonderful photographs of ‘The Lace’ in flight. The weathering is fantastic and I intend having a go at it. The thing to note is that the very prototypical leading edge black de-icing boots on the leading edges of the wings and fin are on ‘The Lace’, absent. Pity I didn’t look at these photos before getting out the airbrush!!
I used a 70/10/20 mix of Tamiya Zinc Chromate Yellow, Yellow and Thinners. To give in reality a good representation of the fin colour. Before spraying though I used some random squirts of Olive Drab to darken the underside and give some pre-weathering that will be enhanced further later. I took some time masking the de-icing boot on the fin but enough said about this the better as it will be sprayed over shortly!! Doh!!!
With the airbrush out I quickly sprayed all the glazing with Interior Green so as to undercoat them and show inside the green edging around each frame. That’s the plan anyway!
With the fin all masked off I used Tamiya Gloss Black on the fuselage and will leave this two days to harden properly before I proceed to my favourite part….natural metal.
