Painting
The colour scheme is quite straightforward. The wings tail and tailplanes are yellow, the fuselage blue and the rudder has a red and white insignia.
When using bright colours such a yellow, reds, blues, etc you really need to use a white primer. My choice of primer is Tamiya’s fine white primer and the whole airframe was primed with this before applying the yellow and blue.
The instructions colour call out for the blue is Tamiya XF-8 Flat Blue but looking at reference photos this is far too dark (see the photos of the real aircraft) so I mixed up my own blue for this.
The wings and tailplanes were straight yellow and I used Tamiya XF-4 Flat Yellow as the base colour but then used Mr Paints Marking Yellow over the top to get a more realistic shade.
There are decals for the rudder but I opted to mask and paint this as I felt it looked better.
The lower wings, struts and tailplane were then glued in place – these all fit very well without the need for any filling which is good as this would have meant respraying.
