Walkways, vents, undercarriage and protrusions
I have never been a big fan of applying decals for walkways; as it stands, the kit decals for this are completely the wrong colour for an RAF airframe, which is a bit of a surprise as on both the decal guide and the side of the box the decal sheet shows them as the correct black. I think I may have a bad decal sheet here, I also notice the tail code lettering is grey instead of black and in the wrong font.
No matter, it’s out with the masking tape and Matt Black paint instead.
The photo-etch vents we added to the top surface of the tail gearbox and forward gearbox sides are masked and cleaned up before they get painted black. After drying, a stiff bristle brush cleans out the vent holes of spray dust.
Masking around the rear undercarriage wheel wells protects our hard work from overspray, before applying some Chromate Yellow primer and a faded top coat of the interior grey in similar fashion to the cargo bay wall areas.
Now is also a good time to mask off and spray the underbelly cargo hatch with more Chromate yellow primer.
We have some satellite panels on the roof and undersides that require a radome finish, but that about wraps up the main painting.
Lastly, just a coat of gloss prior to decaling and we are ready to bring our Chinook to life.

Fantastic RAF Chinook, super detailed and great guide for my current Italeri 1/48 Chinook HC2 project. Can only wish I had that talent for building!

The final build is fantastic; I’m so pleased to come across this, as I got this kit today. I’m so excited to start, but even more so with your guidance; great work.
