The Build…
Call me old fashioned but red plastic, it’s a bit gimmicky and its awful to work with, I do hope later versions come in grey plastic. That said the fit is pretty good, as a quick bit of construction had the cockpit tub and ejector seats together in no time. The cockpit tub is nicely detailed (not up to resin standards but good enough as a starting point but a full resin cockpit would be amazing in this kit) and the main ejector seats are OK but the decal harnesses are very questionable but more about these in a minute.
The front nose wheel bay is fitted and it is a little fiddly so dry fit all the parts just to make sure you are happy. The fit is very good once you figure out how it goes together.
Now remember how I said I disliked the red plastic , well it is for one main reason, it’s a real pain to get good colour density on it so that you obscure the red plastic but you don’t use too many layers of paint and dull down the surface detail. The best way you can do this is spray on a base coat of Alclad2 extra fine grey primer (which is excellent) before using the required Gunze Sangyo paint.
