Weathering fun!
Decals and painting done, it was time for some weathering fun. I started with a sludge wash of Ammo of Mig’s Light Grey Panel Line Wash. I pretty much stick to these products for my enamel weathering. You can do quite a lot with these, and they are convenient.
Do note that I’m doing this wash over Mr. Paint’s natural semi-gloss finish. I’ve not applied any clear coats. I like to work enamel weathering on satin surfaces. You get a little bite – more than gloss – but not too much like with a flat. I chose a sludge wash here because I want some grime on the surface. Once this is dried for about half an hour it’s worked off with a dry makeup sponge.
The glossy sea blue is going to be a bit more involved to weather, so we will take it in steps. First I apply a sludge wash of Ammo Blue Black Panel Line wash. This is going to give me some depth to the panel lines, and also some more tonal variation to the wing tops.
I allowed this first wash to dry some time, then I shot the areas with a light mist of Vallejo satin varnish for some protection.
