Since the undercarriage on the Jaguar is quite distinctive I spent some time adding some hydraulic lines to the landing gear legs using fine copper wire and aluminium tape. Whilst not entirely accurate this does add interest to this area.
One of my favourite parts of the build is adding the flat coat as this is when you can see if the finished project is going close to what you’d hoped for. On this model I used Testors Dullcoate which is my preferred flat coat.
I like to weather over a flat coat. Over the past year I’ve simplified my weathering process. Rather than try the latest product or techniques I’ve gone back to basics using Tamiya weathering sets, pigments, pastels and a lot of coloured pencils. These were used to add streaks and other weathering marks.
All that was left was to add weapons, wheels, pitot probes, canopies and antennas. I’d started with Paragon resin wheels but these looked too flat so ended up using some from Royale Resin. I also scratch-built some intake blanks from plastic card and wire to hide the lack of intake trunking. Getting decent RAF style RBF tags was also difficult, these are paper ones from Fantasy Printshop. They are thick but OK although I did have to paint the edge red where the red parts were.
The pitot probe is a brass one from Master Models. The antennae behind the cockpit and on the tail are PE from the kit. These are nice but somewhat difficult to attach. Once these were on, the weapons, seat and canopy were added and the model was complete.
