Masking
A fair bit to mask – the canopies of course and the cockpit itself; Tamiya tape is very good and by cutting it into thin strips the whole think is done is short order (there’s an entry in your SMN Techniques Bank showing how to mask).
The canopy parts are sprayed the same Tamiya Rubber Grey that’s a great match for scale black.
White area under the nose
You can see that this Cat scheme has a small area of white beneath the nose and Revell flat white is sprayed on – I notice that this manufacturer’s white tends to stay whiter for longer; some of the other manufacturers whites, especially enamels go yellowy quite quickly. There will be a thin lightly feathered edge between this and the orange upper surfaces.
Masking this Cat for the orange!
Well, love it or hate it, I’m going for my chosen scheme, it’s time for the orange upper surfaces to get a coat of paint – can’t wait, it’s been a long time coming.
Ok, so what orange colour to use? Well, I’ve looked at a few and staying with enamels Xtracolor easyJet Orange (X-324) is a good match. Normally colours like yellow, red and orange can be a bit translucent but using this specific paint/colour is fine neat, just using cellulose thinner once more. Just work carefully around the airframe and the orange areas soon stand out – well, you could hardly miss them could you?
You’ll see that some of the masking is a bit fiddly but I just like to do it this way and you might have your own, more efficient and preferable order for masking; I just followed the instructions.
