Wing leading edges
The dark grey de-icing panels along each main wing leading edge need to be masked and Tamiya NATO Black XF-69 is good for this but any dark grey will do. The fin leading edge is masked in the same way using Tamiya tape.
Orange touch-up!
Looking at the orange areas I felt they needed a little touching up and one or two areas re-shaped and now is a good time to do this as we’re getting ready for all that decaling – mmm can’t wait (really?).
More masking
You may as well take care of the other areas that need masking like the air brake interiors and wheel wells and inside of the undercarriage doors. Tamiya Yellow Green XF-4 is a great match for the yellow Zinc Chromate colour used in these areas on RAF Jags.
More Aires resin parts
Some nice replacement airbrake parts on offer here with good internal details. The main benefit apart from the detail is the much more accurate internal bay for the starboard (right) side airbrake bay. The real thing houses the access port for the fuel line and looks very different to the internals of the kit parts that are simplified and show the same details both sides. I just wish that I had planned this area better…
If you want those brakes open as I do adding the resin replacement parts is a must, the only problem is of course that I can’t now add the new bay at this late stage and so I cut away the internal detail from the resin parts and dropped that into the existing bay – a bit fiddly but we got there in the end. This just got sprayed with XF-4 along with the other parts.
