Conclusions and Gallery
The Monogram PBY kit was ahead of its time and is still the foremost Catalina model out there in my opinion. Except for the major error in the tail, the kit is highly accurate and detailed and comfortably easy to build.
The shear size of the model means a lot of time is needed to prepare surfaces and paint such an expanse of plastic, but boy what a result at the end.
The Belcher Bits resin tail is a ‘must’ and although a bit rough cast, truly enhances the finished model.
Interior detailers could go to town with this subject, such a shame not much would be seen unless you opened up one side?
I’ll own up to one major error on my part, courtesy of shoddy research. Remember I mentioned at the start that I’ll return to that 210 Squadron Code ‘DA’, well the sharp eyed among you will notice I have coded the model ‘DH’. My fault for believing the first website I saw and not checking my notes later.
A truly satisfying kit to build, much enjoyment and most highly recommended.
Happy building…..Mick S.
