Unfortunately, the nose gear leg has to go in now as I can’t see any way of adding it later given the design of the attachment points. I painted the nose gear bay top and sides flat black to make it invisible on the finished model when you peer in through the windscreen.
Don’t forget to add noise weight too. Revell suggests 15g and I added that, plus the weight of the plasticine putty to secure the petal pellets in place.
Windows…
OK, the first main decision to make now is what method to try here for this build? A huge thank you to all of my friends on FB for their helpful idea and suggestions for how to tackle the windows on this Revell Boeing 767. My plan is to try several of them over the coming civilian airliner builds.
For this build I have decided to back the window recesses from the inside with black plasticard. The sheet I have has a shiny surface on one side and that will face out from the inside. The first step is to cut some lengths of black card just wider than the height of the windows.
I held each strip in place and applied plenty of Tamiya Extra Thin Quick setting glue and taped the strips down. I’ll just leave these in situ for a bit of added support.
You can see the reflective side in this photo…
Now I don’t think this is sufficient to look convincing and so I think my plan will be to add some Micro Kristal Klear into the window apertures and when that’s dry, either add a little more if I see any concave areas and then add a touch of Humbrol Clearfix if I can find some. Maybe gloss varnish if not to finish them off? We’ll see.
Just add the tail skid and the fuselage is ready to close up. The fit is fine and I added lots of liquid poly (as above) and Tamiya tape to secure. I’ll leave the body for at least two days before attempting to clean up the join. When I do that, I’ll deal with the mould sink marks that are present.
You can see that the model is a nice size to work with.
I’m really enjoying this build – quality is very good and fit excellent – what’s not to like?
Some cleaning up to do on the main join lines, although, as I say, the fit is excellent. To protect the window apertures I cut lengths of Tamiya masking tape and covered them up to stop dust and mank getting into them.
It takes no time at all to sort out the joins and then it’s on to a little re-scribing of the panel lines that cross the fuselage joins.
I used my usual method of re-scribing that involves Dymo sticky label tape and my Olfa P-Cutter scribing tool. There are also a few mould sink marks to deal with and a drop of cyano/talc mix is good for filling. Then just add some activator/kicker, sand and polish to make good.
Wings…
These fitted together very well and I used my usual Tamiya Quick Setting liquid glue, taping everything up and left for a couple of days to harden properly.
The wings join perfectly to the fuselage, as do the tailplanes.

Now you have got me wanting to try an airliner Geoff lol.
Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
Cheers

Hi James, – thanks for that. I have to say there’s something about these airliner projects that makes them a challenge for sure to me – I just don’t want them to look toy-like! We’ll see….onto the painting as we speak so a new update soon. Geoff C.

Krystal Klear leads to slightly concave windows…so you’d think adding more would help out. But I have never seen anyone do that– so maybe it doesn’t work.
Geoff Coughlin says
Hi Steve – yes that’s the problem with KK – a couple of other possibilities have popped up and I’ll have to make a decision soon – we’ll see! Thanks, G

Hello,Geoff – Superb work as always,my friend.Viewing this build does tempt me to do an airliner subject without doubt.
The ‘Xtreme’ Metals are excellent paints.
Good luck with everything at Telford this coming weekend.😊👏

Thanks Paul – done a lot on it today and may get it finished this week which would be good :)
It’s surprised me how much work there is in these subjects – a challenge but very rewarding so far.
Can’t wait for Telford :) G
