Metallic areas
Not sure if this was the ‘right’ decision – to spray these areas after the main colour but I think it was, given the prep needed beforehand. The problem is all the masking that’s needed, but armed with a scalpel and steel rule I cut lots of suitable angular pieces of Tamiya masking tape and set about protecting the areas around the metallic areas on the engine pods, engine pylons, leading wing edges and underside of some panels on the trailing edges of the main wings.
I used a range of Alclad2 metallic paints sprayed thinly over the areas. Airframe Aluminium as the base colour and then some Steel and Hot Red and Blue and pale Burnt Metal to create a realistic ‘burnt’ metal finish. I think the reality is a little more subtle than the images suggest with this review but you get the idea.
