Engine
You need to decide whether you want to display the BMW engine or not – I don’t so you can leave out all the engine supports and the assembled engine drops neatly into two grooves – one inside each engine cowl side panel. The detail is good on the engine although if not displaying with the cowls open, precious little will be seen of it on your finished model. There will be the fan to go behind the spinner later that further reduces what can be seen.
I sprayed Alclad’s Black Primer and Micro Filler onto the engine and we will do a little dry-brushing later to enhance what little will be seen and the engine can just go in and add the cowls if closing up as I plan to do here. Remember, this project is all about the colour scheme and showing that to best advantage.
The cowl flaps fit ok but there are some alignment issues that may have been me and a bit of sanding and filling is needed but not much.
Masking now for painting…
I use Tamiya tape for this and also try and use older pieces that have been used before if they are still sticky to save money – waste not, want not!
The control surfaces and tailplanes are added now and their fit is excellent.

Cannot Go wrong with a 190 Geoff, I am doing the Hasegawa F8 kit as Red 9. I will follow along as you build yours. Takes me back to the series of books you did back in the good old days(lol), that I used to hone my Luftwaffe model skills with.
Had to laff when you got XF22 and XF63 mixed up I am always doing that.
Cheers
James

Built this exact kit a few months back, is very nice.

Thanks Mick and James – yes really enjoying this one and it would be nice James to re-visit those older publications, especially the Luftwaffe Masterclass from Osprey – that is in serious need to bringing up to date given all the new materials and kits available – sadly the publisher didn’t seem to be interested. Hello,Geoff – An absolute masterclass and masterpiece as always, dear friend.🏆
I’ve yet to try MRP acrylic lacquers but guess that they’re similar to work with as Mr.Color ones apart from being pre-thinned.
They’re superb paints to work with and I’ve found their rapid drying time a big help when working on and handling big scale subjects.
The whole project is a joy to view and study.👏😉👍

That’s very kind of you Paul and very much appreciated. Apart from the fact that they stink to high heaven, the MRP paints are superb to work with as you say – really excellent coverage and finish. Here’s to the next one… G

Excellent build as always Geoff and the pastel shading of panel lines is great….tried it on a recent Mojo Tamiya Spitfire build around the wing to fuselage fairing and adjacent cowling panels….much easier imho than post shading with paint and easier to correct
Well done as always sir
Best wishes Howard
