Summary
Well it’s different from your normal model jet and definitely stands out from the crowd but then so does the real aircraft. The basic kit from Revell is very good and exceptional value for money; yes it does benefit from a resin cockpit but this isn’t essential. The kit decals are very comprehensive and look good from a quality perspective but I can’t really comment on their usability as I didn’t use them. The Cammett paint/decal set is excellent but the paints need a lot of thinning and in hindsight I should have thinned them more to get a smoother finish. The sheet decals would have probably worked but it was good to have the individual star option and the instruction booklet is excellent; lots of information about the real aircraft and lots of colour photos telling you how to paint the model. Overall it’s been a challenging build as a result of the paint job but the finished model looks great and the effort was definitely worth it.
Note: the Cammett set is no longer available as Robin shut up shop a while ago but you do occasionally see the sets on eBay and on on-line forums. If you can’t get hold of the set though you could match the paint colours with readily available products and you may be able to get a set of decals from Fantasy Printshop as I think they produced them. The figure in the photos comes from Wings Aviation and just adds a little more interest to the model.
