Once the kit main components were together, then I started with one of the main challenges in this build: the wood grain of the plywood panels. I followed Herr Glass suggestions at the Uschi van der Rosten website (at the tutorials section).
For the base I decided to combine panels painted with Tamiya’s XF-15 Flat Flesh, XF-55 Deck Tan and XF-59 Desert Yellow, and the five types of wood grain provided in the Uschi Ho 229 special set. After the laborious process of masking and painting each panel, over the plain base coat, I applied effects of lights and shadows, using the post-shading technique. Then, I masked all the wooden parts and applied a mix of Alclad lacquers on the metallic sections, some post-shading and enhancing the panel lines with oils. The metal parts were sponged with a highly diluted Vallejo black wash, to give the effect dull non-polished metal (sorry for the poor quality of some of my pictures).

Hi Ricardo. Great looking build. What’s the name of the tool you are using that copies the shape and contours of parts? I’d like to get one.
Thanks.
Ricardo Barrientos says
Hi Andrew, you can find it as a Contour Gauge. Good luck and thank you for reading!

This is some incredible work and goes to show that with some elbow grease and TLC, this model can be built to the same standard of the Z-M Horten Ho 229 (or exceed it in this case).
Ricardo Barrientos says
Hi Albert, thank you very much for your kind comments! And yes, “elbow grease”, but above all, love, and passionate dedication to this hobby! Happy holidays and my very best regards from Guatemala!
