V1 launch pylon
This is added to the underside – they seemed to have been carried on either side underneath the aircraft inboard of the engines.
I also assembled the simple V1 bomb and set that aside for painting later.
Undercarriage
This is a distinct feature of the He-111 and is well captured by the manufacturer. I just added some flats to the tyres to show them carrying some weight.
Citadel Colour Bolt Gun Metal is good for the wheel hubs and Tamiya Rubber Black for the tyres.
Painting
Plenty of masking before our Heinkel is ready for the paint shop!
I kept the separate forward canopy section off the model as this allows me the chance to clean up any mess on the insides of the clear parts after all the cleaning up and the fit is also good so it can just slot on later, and of course, the nose section is easier to handle off the model.
The undersides are RLM 66 with the upper camo RLM 70 (Schwarzgrun) / 71 (Dunkelgrun). Just use whatever pain range is your favourite. I used some old Aeromaster water-based acrylics that sadly aren’t available now.
The zig-zag camo pattern is made up using strips of Tamiya masking tape.
…they dry matt and need to be glossed when fully dry ready for the decals.
The canopy nose section can now be added.
