Two options are provided in the kit:-
F-100F 63867, 458th TFS, Ramstein, Germany, 1958-59.
F-100F 82218. No details provided but assumed to be a ‘Misty’ aircraft in SE Asia three-tone scheme.
As a glutton for punishment, I decided on the natural metal finish of the first option.
After the usual de-grease with isopropanol, I used my favourite AK Black self-levelling primer in two coats. After a light sanding with fine grit wet & dry, I airbrushed two coats of True Metals Aluminium.

Next was trying to replicate the characteristic heat staining of the afterburner section. Using some very good internet photographs as a reference, I masked off the area and began proceedings by misting on a very light pattern of Alclad Hot Metal Blue. This was followed by a similar misting of Hot Red, filling in the gaps in the blueing. This was slowly built up until it looked something like the pattern in the photos but far too bright. Next I used Alclad Burnt Iron to tone down the effect and bring the final burnished look to what I thought matched the real aircraft.

The wing tips and nose intake were masked and airbrushed with Mr Hobby RLM Yellow over my favoured flat flesh base colour.
The canopy and windscreen were masked and painted along with the landing gear, doors, tail-planes, refuelling probe and pitot probe. Before these were added it was time for the decals.

“Hello,Rob” – A magnificent build of the big Super Sabre.
The tonal shading on the NMF is very effective and the characteristic heat-staining on the rear section looks just right.
The vibrant scheme markings complete a great model.
As Always,
Paul.
