Pinning for strength
With this drying I had a look at the wings and horizon tail surfaces. As I was doing a post-war aircraft it would have been rigorously cleaned so weathering was kept to an absolute minimum. Both were primed with gloss Black and given a coat of White Aluminium. I opted not to shade the ribs as there would have been very little fading in this finish unlike the war time green finish. For some robustness of the ailerons and elevators I pinned these in place using copper wire. The instructions tell you that the wing struts were probably painted red or left in a natural wood finish. The red would have been striking but I opted for the natural wood effect as I think it adds another finish effect to the model.
