Into the cockpit…
As with the majority of aircraft kits, work began with the cockpit and this was a little gem. I had already decided on an almost factory-fresh aircraft so the cockpit was built and painted with very little weathering. I only really used a wash (MIG Productions Dark and Neutral washes) and a light dry-brushing to highlight details in certain areas.
This image shows the detail present on the unpainted parts and here it is all painted up to further reveal that detail.
It should be noted that the harness is moulded onto the seat and careful painting will bring this to life.
The instrument panel required individual decals to be placed for each instrument. To aid this process, a punch-and-die set was used to remove the decals from the sheet before they were applied.
Below shows the two under floor fuel tanks and the yellow GM-1 Nitrous Oxide tank. These will unfortunately be completely invisible on the complete model. As will many more details.
Junkers Jumo 213E engine
The Junkers Jumo 213E engine was up next and this was also a lovely little assembly to build and paint. There are no issues to be noted with this part of the build. I used Tamiya S.G. Black as a basecoat for the engine parts before various shades of Alclad metallic lacquers were used to give colour and life. The main colour used was Aluminium with Exhaust Manifold used for the areas that would be this colour. I used Jet Exhaust to apply some shading as this is a nice greasy metallic colour. MIG Productions Dark Wash was used to highlight details as required.
