Canopy framing
Tamiya tape again is used here to mask the canopy with the cockpit Tamiya XF-21 Sky greenish colour going on first. In this scale I think that this method is fine as it allows the cockpit colour to correctly show through but on larger scale models, especially when the canopy will be left open, you should probably mask and spray the inside framing for extra realism.
Propeller
This is beautifully moulded with very fine blades so be careful when cleaning up and handling. Revell Matt 84 Brown is a decent match I think for the brown used on Japanese fighter propellers but you may have your own preference. The brown can masked after a couple of hours and the yellow tips sprayed using Tamiya XF-4 Yellow Green (Zinc Chromate Yellow). I like this colour as it looks like faded and worn yellow.
The props are finished using pencil graphite to add some scratches and chips; these don’t show up very well in the pics but I will get some better ones for later when the model is finished.
Prep – undercarriage units
These are nicely moulded with slight flats/bulges on the tyres; they are ready to be painted Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black with Tamiya XF-65 Rubber Black used for the tyres themselves.
