The Painting Stage
First of all, when painting a standard RAF Meteor, you have to be aware that the aircraft was not finished in bare metal, it was painted High Speed Silver. With this in mind I painted the whole airframe with AK White Aluminium. I really like this paint as it has a slightly thicker consistency than Alclad and isn’t so susceptible to showing surface imperfections such as minor scratches as it will fill them to an extent. It was then a case of spraying the tail black and adding the decals – or so I thought!!
Now for the obligatory disaster – the sealing in varnish decided to react with the decals and caused them to bubble up. The only solution was to remove the offending decals and the damage paint associated with them and choose another decal option from the sheet. The rear section was repainted silver, the tail yellow and the bullet red then the replacement decals.
