I couldn’t wait for this release to hit the shelves and so straight down to my local model shop, Access Models in Newark-on-Trent to pick it up today. First impressions don’t disappoint either with plastic that features fine recessed panel lines, good detail, especially in the cockpit, wheel wells and speed brake housings.
Four possible options for GR.1 and GR.1A aircraft are offered…
Choosing one to build is really hard and as I know that I will be building at least two of these kits over the next twelve months, let’s start with an Operation Granby/Desert Storm RAF Jaguar GR.1A XZ118/Y ‘Buster Gonad’, Muharraq Airport, Bahrain, October 1990-March 1991.
References and preparation…
Before we start, some good time researching my photo archive and references to get a feel for the level of weathering and final look that I want to create with this project. Two great print references are these:
Both include super detail images and all you could ever need to complete your Jaguar project and come highly recommended (thank you Les for the outstanding Duke Hawkins book! :) ).
Don’t forget, your SMN Photo Reference Library has a couple of great walkaround sets to help you with any Jaguar build.
Studying the instruction book is essential time well spent and first up is to be mindful and work towards Option 3 – the selected Desert Storm Jag and the booklet is very clear throughout using a simple yellow circle with the appropriate option letter to guide you along the way.
There is a helpful diagram at the start showing where the decals for the cockpit parts and stores will be located, so don’t forget to add these as they will make a big difference to the look of your completed model.
