Chips!
The next stage was to apply chips to the model; I used Vallejo German Black Brown which was well thinned and applied with a small pointed round brush. I wanted this to be not too heavy for the chips which were applied to edges and places that would have wear. The scratches were applied to the side skirts only again using a pointed brush and well thinned paint. A piece of sponge was used to make the chipping on the top panel and the rear sloped area.
The exhaust pipe is painted using the Lifecolor Rust set which when dry is a flat finish. I start with the lightest colour UA704 Light Rust 2 first, applied thinned with a little water and follow this with UA703 Rust Light Shadow 1 while still wet. Don’t worry about the coverage as the more mixed up and patchy the better. The next layer is UA702 Rust base colour again thinned and applied over the previous paint. UA701Rust Dark Shadow was then applied in a thin coat and allowed to dry. If the final result doesn’t come up to expectation one can reapply the paints.
