Mud spatter
The last item of weathering was to be the mud splatter. I did this by mixing paint, plaster and pigment which was well thinned and then using an old paint brush to pick up the mixture, I blew most of this mix off with the airbrush. I then held the brush about an inch/ 25mm away from the surface and blew the paint onto the wheels, side skirts, front and back plates. I would advice practice before trying this on your model as the pressure and distance will affect the area and the size of the splatter.
As far as the model is concerned this is the finish but I like to display my models on a base with at least one crew figure to give some idea of scale.
This was a fill-in model as I had hit a block with the current project; it was to be a quick build OOB and the same with the paint/weathering – it turned out to be something else.
I have to say I enjoyed this kit as it makes a good representation of the Hetzer which gives one the choice of barrel and wheels so different production stages can be made. I also like the pre-cut masking sheet for the camouflage pattern. I would have liked the number to have been printed on the backing of the individual masks but are notated on the instruction sheet. I did change the barrel for a metal item but really there was no need to do this but I do this on most of my armour models.
