Main Hull…
As I’m a bit of a newcomer to modern AFV kits I just followed the instructions as I’m sure most seasoned armour modellers have different ways to approach kits as do us aircraft modellers!
I assembled the main hull parts, which made a nice sturdy assembly.
Then the suspension arms were added in place and these seemed to line up very well, as I know some kits include jigs to allow for perfect alignment of the arms.
Then some towing hooks and boxes were added to the front and rear of the hull.
Road wheels and tracks…
The idler wheels and drive sprockets were fitted (Note Geoff’s error whilst assembling his!) Then I assembled the 10 road wheels, normally I think there are poly caps to go inside the halves of the road wheels but the instructions did not call for any so I was confused why there are so many in the kit. Oh well.
I messaged Geoff for some advice on how he was painting his tank as I was thinking of painting the road wheels separately to allow easier painting of parts, he told me he was going to build up the entire tank and just spray it so I decided I’d do the same.
I fitted the road wheels to the suspension arms and then turned my attention to the tracks.
These really are marvellous! Airfix give you separate track links for the curved areas and multi link sections for the straight areas of the tracks. I used Tamiya white poly for the tracks as it allowed a slower cure time, which allowed me to position the tracks and make some final adjustments.
