Short Feature Article by Malc Ireson
A note from Geoff…
I hope you enjoy this short Feature Article from Malc I and I’m sure you will. Despite the lack of build-up pics Malc has provided a great description of how he approached his project. There’s plenty of useful information there for anyone interested in undertaking a similar project and so that’s why I have included everything Malc has supplied and given it to you as a Short Feature Article – much better than a heavily edited note in your SMN Subscribers’ gallery :)
Over to you Malc…
Introduction
The Sherman, like all good tanks, needed a recovery vehicle good and powerful enough to be able to recover the stranded tank from almost anywhere.
The first recovery vehicle was based on the Lee chassis (M-31); this was good, but was found to be lacking in power to be able to recover the heavier Sherman, so in early 1943, the contract was put out to develop an ARV on the Sherman chassis, so the M-32 was born.
