Conclusion
The Sd.Kfz.247 looks like it would be a quick model to assemble and paint, but does take noticeably more time than a comparable tank, as so many parts require painting before assembly. However, once the inner hull is painted and complete the model build progresses at a nice pace.
The model is very well engineered with parts fitting very nicely. The mould lines are very fine with no flash on the sprues. The plastic is quite brittle so it is worth leaving small, thin, delicate parts off, like the steering tie rods, until near completion.
There are a number of errors in the instructions so it really pays to dry fit all parts where possible.
There are sections like the engine and rolling chassis, which are quite well detailed but are not really visible when the model is finished. As a consequence if I made another 247 then I would use a Razor Saw to cut off the engine hood at the width wise hinge line behind the engine hatch. Then I would go to town on detail in the Engine Compartment, adding electrical and fuel lines and a Maintenance Chappie working in the compartment. This would add an extra level of detail.
ICM now produce a set of figures for their 247 and would make a good addition to the model.
A real world rare vehicle and by assembling the 247 you get to understand how the real vehicle was put together and how similar it is to a modern 4×4 vehicle.
