I also stumbled across a PE set from Tetra models. Not a company I’d come across before but it looked pretty extensive and worth a look. I had an idea to do a road block vignette with the nice CMK figures and MacOne Jersey barriers I’d also acquired.
Being a Tamiya kit, assembly was pretty straightforward with the plastic going together in about 4 hours.
As to be expected the PE took quite a bit longer.
The PE set includes some new parts that aren’t in plastic, of note these are:
- a floor to the turret stowage rack;
- some latches for the turret hatch;
- a bin that attaches to the side of the turret:
- some razor wire;
- some large (20mm sized) ammo cans for the side of the turret stowage rack;
- 0.5 Cal Ammo belts
- and some stickers for the optics.
All the other PE bits replace or cover plastic parts in the kit.
It was good to try working with more complicated PE bits rather than what I usually use on my aircraft builds. I tried some soldering on the ammunition boxes that attach to the hull. I’d call this semi-successful and whilst the PE is definitely better than the plastic it replaces, I’m not sure I’d bother with it on this kit again. The Tamiya plastic the PE replaces is perfectly adequate for this scale in my opinion.
