Kit Ref: 35359
Background…
Back in April 2022, I saw the Tamiya boxing of the Sherman M4A3E8 “Easy Eight” in Korea. The colourful scheme represented by the box art of a vehicle operated by “Rice’s Red Devils” C Company, of the 89th Tank Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, during 1951 had me hooked. So a crash course in armour modelling and Sherman tanks in particular followed (but I’ll admit that I’m still a novice on this very deeply detailed subject). Suffice to say this went straight to the top of the build pile when it landed on the doorstep.
Just before we get going, here’s a quick look at how it all turned out…
The Plan…
The kit includes a GAZ 67B Russian issue Jeep (as used by North Korean forces), which I believe to be a very old Tamiya issue (approx. 1973 vintage). So the idea formed to replicate the box art in some way, showing a stranded GAZ 67B with a Sherman passing by. I needed to establish what level of weathering to attempt, what additional paraphernalia to obtain and place on the Sherman, and the best build sequence.

My main reference source for this build was the good old Internet, with the some great information and images in David Doyle’s book.
