Reference
There’s a nice little set that has been recently added to your Photo Reference Library on the Matilda, so that’s probably worth a look. You can download the PDF as usual for your own reference.
In-box review
You’ll find this very soon in your Here Now area of SMN, so keep an eye out for that one!
Let’s get straight into this build – nothing fancy with this one but a nice tank and I want to just enjoy it pretty much out of the box…
Lower Hull
Well so far this is yet another one of Mr Tamiya’s wonderful fitting kits as everything fits where it should and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. At this stage I am still unsure which version I am building but I have a while to make my mind up.
Tracks
The tracks are the same as the rest of the kit in that they are very nicely moulded with 12 parts to each side and by following the instructions they are easy to assemble and fit with no gaps.
Upper Hull
Well the upper hull is much the same as the chassis as it fits great. It’s a case of cut, clean up, dry fit and then cement in place as the parts fit that well. I had a look at a few photos on the net and saw that not all Matilda’s had fuel tanks on the back so thought it would be different to leave it off.
The one thing I don’t like is the tow ropes, so if I was to do another one, I would replace them. Maybe the MG and the main barrel would also be replaced but this would be my personal choice.
