Grey!
In this instance a medium grey was used (Gunze H306) I then chose to use a paint brand that scares me a bit, Xtracrylix. I did a little research and the closest match was XA1138 ADC Grey Fs 16473.
I thinned the paint with the Xtracrylix own thinners and set off spraying thin even layers across the aircraft slowly hiding the pre-shaded lines and building up a lovely finish so you can barely see them. Once this had been left 24 hours to dry a coat of Klear was added to protect the paint from handling and to provide a nice gloss coat for the decals.
Metallic back end
This was also left to dry in the airing cupboard (toasty) for 24 hours before I masked off the paint to allow for the work on the metallized exhaust area to be sprayed. This was done using various shades of the wonderful Alclad II lacquers, Pale Burnt Metal, Stainless Steel and some of the ‘Hot’ range was used to give the exhaust a ‘burnt’ effect.
I then masked ready for the radome and the anti glare panel to be painted black and gave it a quick spray of Klear.
