Having built the gun and fixed it to the turret we now turn our attention to the front fender mud flaps which on the real vehicle were made of leather. Again the wine bottle top comes to the rescue. Using the fender to draw the profile on the foil to give me a reference starting point the outline was drawn taking measurements from the kit and scale plans to give the shape shown in the photograph. This was offered up to the kit after being bent and then glued into place using “Gators glue”, which is an acrylic hobby glue. The cut out was used to make the other side as a mirror image and glued in place as the first one was. These were allowed to dry overnight. When I looked at them in the morning I found I had forgotten the inner side pieces. Using the same foil two pieces were fabricated and stuck in place and filler used to fill a small gap.
The next item to be fitted was the turret Mg. A hole was drilled in the turret ball mount and the metal barrel fixed in place with super glue. The same was done for the hull mounted Mg. Both require sights to be made and fitted but this will be done later so as not to damage them while handling the model.
