With this model I decided to try a different method of painting and finishing by doing all the detail painting first. My idea being that every thing would then get a complete weathering as happened on the real thing. So let’s give it a go and see how it turns out. If it fails it can always be repainted.
I started by painting the stores which were packed on the fenders behind the wood planking. The bottom tarpaulins on both sides were done in a medium grey, the netting was painted green as was the second tarpaulin on the other side. The last sheet on the other side was done in brown.
The tools which had been positioned on top of the tarps and camouflage net were undercoated in black for the steel and the wooden handles in light sand. The exhaust pipe and muffler was done in salmon pink and applied quite unevenly. This looks very stark against the grey but after the following colours should look OK and add a little colour contrast to the basic Panzer Grey. The straps which hold on the tools and sheet material were painted in a tan colour.
One of the three jerry cans mounted on the engine deck side plate was painted in Model Colour 830 German Grey to again give a little contrast. The spare track links on the fender was then painted in black, also the mg barrels, as were the tyres. Normally I would not use black but as the vehicle is a dark grey and the black is really a very dark grey, I thought would be another contrast.
On the engine deck is a small wooden box which was painted brown following this the last item in this session was the tow rope which was undercoated in matt black.
