Inspecting the application of mud I decided to add more Mig pigments with its fixer and thinner for washes. I applied the pigment dry around the places where it would collect using different shades which then had a brush full of the fixer, applied in drops to the small piles of pigment dust. This was done several times all over the substructure until I was happy with the result.
I then mixed gloss and matt Vallejo varnish with thinner and water which were then sprayed on the turret, hull top and sides. I want to finish with a matt finish for the substructure and a semi matt finish on the upper part.
When this had dried I applied the numbers, which were rub down white Letraset Helvetica Medium Condensed 3mm, position and rubbed down with a burnishing tool. When the number had been separated from it backing paper I used the sheet of protecting paper to burnish it down further to make sure it adhered to the surface. When both sides of the turret had been done it was the turn of the back of the turret. As the gun protrudes from the turret front it made life a little difficult to hold, so the numbers could be rubbed down. After several ideas were tried I put the turret back on the hull and rotated it 90 degrees and cut the Letraset to manageable strips then applied it. A further coat of the semi matt varnish was then applied to seal them.
The unit markings of two X’s were hand painted on the front and rear using yellow Model Air colour with a 000 brush.
